The Black Contact Lens: For Intriguing Eyes That Mesmerize

In search of captivating eyes that are mesmerizing, more and more people are discovering the black contact lens. Not just used in horror movies or by performers, or gothic rock stars, black contact lenses are quickly increasing in popularity as they pepper the mainstream market.

Depending on your country of residence, approval from a doctor may not be needed for ordering special effect lenses such as the black contact lens, which generally are sold in non prescription form. Also known as plano lenses, or without power, non prescription contact lenses originated in the movie and theater industries. Special effects lenses are soft contact lenses that may completely change or simply enhance the color of the eye without adversely affecting vision.

For the person that has never worn contact lenses, a fitting by an eye care professional will help to avoid any adverse effects, such as corneal ulcers, that may form from wearing ill-fitting lenses. An eye care specialist can also recommend a proper wear schedule, which should first be kept at a minimum for new contact lens wearer. If the eyes tolerate wearing the contacts, gradually increase the wear time until reaching the maximum amount of time as indicated by the manufacturer or an eye doctor.

In addition to the size of a regular soft contact, the black contact lens can come in a style that appears to encompass the entire eyeball as opposed to just the iris, or colored part of the eye. This is called a scleral contact lens, which covers the white of the eye, the sclera. This larger type of lens may be difficult to insert and remove, and should only be worn for a maximum period of four or five hours. While the effect is dramatic, not everyone can tolerate this type of lens, and it's highly advised to have a proper fitting done by a professional before wearing scleral contact lenses.

It's imperative to never use another person's lenses as this may easily spread or cause infection. While it may be tempting to try on someone else's contacts, even if "just for a minute", doing so is risky and ill advised. Tiny microorganisms may be transmitted from person to person and ultimately cause irritation or infections.

As with all contact lenses that aren't disposable, they must be cleaned after each use, and the saline or storage solution should also be changed each time they are worn. Storage solution should also be replaced monthly if the contacts aren't being worn to prevent them from accidentally drying out.

There are certain conditions that aren't conducive to wearing contacts of any kind, such as smoky or dusty environments that may irritate eyes. If you have frequent eye infections, sensitive eyes, or severe allergies, you may want to forgo wearing contacts lenses to prevent further damage or irritation to the delicate layers of the eye.

A variety of black contact lenses can easily be found at numerous online retailers, and at many eyewear stores and outlets, as well as through eye care professionals.
